Celebrating Western Mebon
Library of Institut Français du Cambodge

This mural was created for the media library of the Institut Français du Cambodge to celebrate the restoration of the Western Mebon temple, located within the Angkor temple complex.

The project draws inspiration directly from the site itself. At the heart of the mural is the reclining Vishnu, referencing the monumental bronze statue discovered at Western Mebon — a powerful symbol of protection, balance, and water, closely linked to the history of Angkor.

The temple is reimagined through a painted reconstruction, surrounded by stone motifs inspired by architectural fragments found on site. Every decorative element represented in the mural is based on details from Western Mebon, echoing the textures, carvings, and patterns of the original structure.

The mural is located within the Cambodia Collection area of the library, creating a visual link between the artwork and the books. It invites visitors to explore the collection and deepen their understanding of Cambodian history, heritage, and culture.
